Mike Taylor, PPT Northern Coordinator, reports on the state of the PPT's facility at the Birkenhead Town Hall.
Due to financial problems, Wirral Borough Council has taken the steps to close the Town Hall to the public and mothball the building. It will carry out repairs to the building.
The cinema facility was installed in 1992 as part of the Wirral Museum within the Town Hall and was operated and maintained by the PPT Northern region. I have been here for the past 33 years so will be sorry to see it closed. The equipment belongs to the PPT and will be safely looked after should it be required in the future. This is the last facility on the Wirral where 35mm film can be shown. For the technical minded, the equipment consists of 35mm Westars on Ross bases, with Century soundheads fitted with red readers. Dolby sound rack and Omnex amplifiers. It is a dual installation so we can run changeovers, or use a Potts long runner platter system.
